Koç University
Child and Family Studies Laboratory

Koç University Child and Family Studies Laboratory conducts scientific research on the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children. These studies explore the skill levels at different developmental areas, and the internal and external factors that influence such skills. In our laboratory, common findings revealed by the scientific studies are shared with families. The information pertaining to which temperament characteristics and parenting behaviors are related in what way with the developmental qualities of children are given first hand to parents in written form.

The majority of the research conducted in our laboratory focus on the preschool period. This is a period where a lot of important changes in child development take place, and the foundations of future skills are built in this time period. If children struggle in a certain area, the preschool period is the ideal time to obtain such information.

Some qualities of child development are universal, and some change according to culture. Parenting behaviors and temperament characteristics that influence child development may be different in Turkey than in other countries. In order to learn more about this possibility, it is crucial to conduct more studies on child development in Turkey. Now is the perfect time to participate in our studies and help the knowledge on child development in Turkey progress!
